Parents

We understand the challenges that most parents face everyday balancing their time between work and family; however, it is critical that you dedicate time and actively participate in the education of your children. Research shows that when schools work together with families to support learning, children tend to succeed not just in school, but throughout life. According to the National Education Association the most accurate predictor of a student’s achievement in school is not income or social status, but the extent to which that student’s family is able to:

• Create a home environment that encourages learning
• Express high (but not unrealistic) expectations for their children’s achievement and future careers
• Become involved in their children’s education at school and in the community;

More importantly, parents need to rely on God’s wisdom to guide their children as they grow physically, mentally and spiritually.

Below we have put together a list of resources and recommendations to help you get involved in your child’s education.

Your involvement should include but is not limited to:
• Reading to your child
• Checking homework every night
• Discussing your children’s progress with teachers
• Helping your school to set challenging academic standards
• Limiting TV viewing on school nights
• Educational Resources
